Mā te Ringa Raupa
This research project explores the way in which iwi have repositioned themselves within the trades and allied professionals training sector of the Building and Construction Industry. The three iwi are involved in this study are Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, Waikato-Tainui, and Ngāi Tahu.
Led by Rihi Te Nana with Professor Jenny Lee-Morgan, Dr Tia Reihana and Rau Hoskins, the research highlights the indigenous innovations that iwi are employing with their people to grow an educated and highly skilled Māori workforce. These innovations focus on realising iwi members’ dreams and aspirations, this assures high motivation for their people to complete their education and training. The longer term outcome is the contribution that is made to the health and well being of their whānau.
This project has culminated in the recently released Mā te ringa raupā research
e-report. Finally we would like to mihi to Ngāti Whātua Orākei, Waikato-Tainui, and Ngāi Tahu for their invaluable contributions and to the Kāinga Tahi, Kāinga Rua Building Better Homes, Towns and Communities National Science Challenge for funding this research.
