MAI KI WAIRAKA MĀORI AND INDIGENOUS POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME

MAI ki Wairaka is based at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka (Unitec). This MAI programme is hosted by Ngā Wai a te Tūī (NWATT) Māori and Indigenous research centre, and joins the national network, Te Kupenga o MAI of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM), New Zealand’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE).

Led by Prof Jenny Lee-Morgan, NWATT provides a number of senior Kaupapa Māori academics and researchers from a range of disciplines who also support MAI ki Wairaka. This MAI programme aims to provide a Kaupapa Māori support network for Māori and Indigenous post-graduate students here at Te Whare Wānanga o Wairaka, and other MAI students in this area.


Kaupapa Māori & Postgrad Research with Prof. Jenny Lee-Morgan

In this workshop session hosted by MAI ki Wairaka (http://www.mai.ac.nz/mai/mai-ki-wairaka), Professor Jenny Lee-Morgan (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Mahuta) reflects on learning about Kaupapa Māori Research through her Postgraduate studies. Professor Jenny Lee-Morgan (Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Mahuta), is the founding Director of Ngā Wai a Te Tūī Māori and Indigenous Research Centre. Jenny has a distinguished track record of teaching and Kaupapa Māori research, and a strong background in education, Te Reo Māori and Community-based research.

Te Reo Māori & Research with Dr. Jen Martin

In celebration of Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, this MAI ki Wairaka wānanga session was held in Te Reo Māori, and facilitated by Eruera Lee-Morgan (Senior advisor - Te Puni Kōkiri). This session’s guest speaker is Dr. Jen Martin (Te Rarawa) discussing Te Reo Māori and research, reflecting on her journey writing and researching i Te Reo Māori. Dr. Jen Martin (Te Rarawa) is the Director of Pae Tū Ltd., and a lecturer at the University of Auckland in Māori studies, with a background in Te Reo Māori and Māori immersion education. Jen has an experienced background in teaching Te Reo Māori, of which she is very passionate about. Her research interests include: Māori language revitalization and development, academic writing in Te Reo Māori, and Māori achievement through education.
