HE WAKA EKE NOA - ONLINE SURVEY
On behalf of Professors Leonie Pihama, and Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Ngā Wai a Te Tūī would like to share with you the He Waka Eke Noa Survey.
He Waka Eke Noa is a research project that explores the role of Māori cultural approaches to violence prevention and intervention. This project has been developed along with social workers, counsellors, and Māori healers who have experience in working with whānau impacted by violence. Currently, many of the programs designed to keep our communities strong by preventing violence are based on imported models from overseas that don’t work for us. We need to develop programs that are from this whenua, using the powerful ideas that come from our own whakapapa.
Our research will be presented to the people who make policy and funding decisions around violence prevention. We want to be able to lay it out in a way they can’t ignore, and prove that we really need to have some policy shifts.
If you’re Māori and you have Māori ancestry, we would love to hear from you. The survey will take around 15 minutes of your time, and your answers will be anonymous. We would like to hear your thoughts whether you have had experiences of violence or not.
